3 Year Anniversary
Hi! It's been a minute. About 2 years, actually. Ok no it's literally been a year and 11 months but who's counting??
In 2022 to commemorate the anniversary of launching this game and finishing undergrad, I made the lofty promise of wanting to do 7 dev logs, one every month in 2022 after May, as a post mortem and reflection on my work on it in addition to providing a free resource on how I built it. I managed to post exactly 2 things pertaining to the post mortem and then was immediately overwhelmed by my full time gig-- I had just gotten a contract to be the script revisionist for a little game called Goodbye Volcano High, which was slated to release that year. It didn't end up coming out until August 2023, and by then I had moved thousands of miles across the country, been made a permanent member of the co-op and was dead on my feet from helping write, design, and edit the scripts for the entire game in what felt like perpetual overtime. But we lived! And the game was received pretty well, transphobic vitriol aside.
I'm busy and happy at KO_OP for the foreseeable future-- my two year anniversary was in April! So a lot of the promised updates and post mortem posts are on pause indefinitely. I know Mac players haven't been able to run the game in a few years-- this is due to my having made the game with the free unity license. MacOS doesn't allow unity projects made with the free license to run unless they're on the absolute latest version of unity, which means that I'd have to keep updating it indefinitely or get a paid license. I would love to come back to finish the post mortem, and I'd love to reopen TWFD and add some QOL updates, bugfix and maybe even add in more content someday.
But none of that is going to happen in the near future, so I won't make any promises. What I WILL do is make the game free, as I don't feel right asking people to purchase a product that isn't going to be receiving regular upkeep. If you still feel inclined to pay, consider buying from my co-conspirator Austin's Bandcamp here: https://austinmwav.bandcamp.com/music
I'd like to thank everyone who played this and reviewed it and even paid money for it. It's not a stretch to say that I owe my career thus far to this game's reception, and I have an infinite fondness for everyone who's ever engaged with it whether they liked it or not. Thanks, and free Palestine.🫀
